The Palais Garnier is the thirteenth theatre to house the Parisian Opera since it was founded by Louis XIV in 1669. It was built on the orders of Napoleon III as part of the great Parisian reconstruction project carried out by Baron Haussmann. The project for an opera house was put out to competition and was won by Charles Garnier, an unknown 35-year-old architect. The construction work lasted for fifteen years, from 1860 to 1875, as it was interrupted by numerous incidents including the war of 1870 and the fall of the Empire. The Palais Garnier was inaugurated on 15th of January 1875.
We then invite you to have dinner in a very famous restaurant located just in front of the opera : the "Café de la Paix".
Open since 1862, the Café de la Paix is a mythical place in Paris. Royal families from every corner of the world, members of the political- financial- and artistic elites, artists and writers all came to this establishment of reputation.
Entirely restored with an elegant and luminous impression, the chief of the restaurant, Patrick Morin, revisits typical Parisian dishes by associating creativity and delightfulness. We give you a meeting between history, chiefs creating work of art and the Parisian elegance
